HIstory of the Kayak

The first Kayaks were fashioned out of driftwood and animal skins by the natives of Asia, North America and Greenland. There is some Archeologist evidence indicating Kayaks to be about 4000 years old! These boats were used for hunting seals and walruses. The term Kayak means “hunters boat”. Eventually word of these boats reached Europe and boating down rivers became a sport. In the 1930’s Kayak clubs began springing up and it became an Olympic sport. Today, recreational Kayaks come in different shapes, sizes and materials.
